UPCOMING EVENTS >

May 2008

Monday 9th June: this is the 40th Anniversary (to the day) of stock car racing at Onchan Park & they would like to invite some vintage or classic cars to form a display to help celebrate. They are offering free entry to appropriate cars & will be laying on hospitality afterwards. Be there for 6.00 or soon after & the fun kicks off at 7.00.

Sunday 15th June: 2.00 for 2.30 as usual from the grandstand for a run set by President Bob Riding which will again head north but this time to the other side of the island to the White House Farm, kindly invited by car enthusiast Doug Bolton. Please bring your picnic but Doug & Anne will have tea & coffee for us & then we can look at their most interesting collection of cars.

Sunday 22nd June: Classic cars are invited to display at the Picnic in the Park & Sports Day in Poulsom Park in Castletown. Entrance is via the railway station & over the tracks into the Park. Please be there by 1.00 & it will finish by 5.30.

Saturday 5th July: We are invited to attend the St Marks Fair which opens at 2.00 so be there by then.

Monday 7th July Tynwald Day: We are invited to put on a display at the prestigious Military Tattoo at Bishopscourt where the band of the RAF will be performing. This event is open to the public from 2.00 but if you like take your champagne lunch in the boot & shooting stick any time from midday onwards.

11th – 13th July is the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Tuesday 15th July and now for something completely different! Edwin Faulkner has very kindly agreed to set an evening run followed by a barbecue. Meet at 6.00 at the Grandstand to move off at 6.30 to a place known only to Edwin & though we anticipate fine weather it won’t matter if it’s cold or wet as the barbecue will then be moved into the barn.

Sunday 20th July is Annual Classic Vehicle Day at Peel from 10.00 & then a parade along the Promenade & Quay at 4.00 to finish. This year it is at the other (north) end of Peel between Walpole Road & the ‘rock’ by the old swimming pool.

Sunday 3rd August the usual 2.00 for 2.30 departure from the grandstand for another run very generously set by Edwin Faulkner & this will take the form of an observer run, afterwards there is a picnic (bring your own) & a prize for the most observant.

Friday & Saturday 8th & 9th August is one of the highlights of the year, the Royal Manx Agricultural Show at Sulby & this year they are celebrating their 150th anniversary. Sadly it was cancelled at the last moment last year due to foot & mouth so much looked forward to. We have our own cordoned off display area & the opportunity to drive around the parade ring once or twice each day. It is an all day event so bring sustenance (though there are extensive catering facilities on the show field). We MUST be in place on the field by 9.30am & remain there until the end of day as there are strict rules regarding the movement of vehicles whilst the public are present. Vehicle passes & entry tickets will be available from Michael Pearce nearer the time.

Sunday 24th August: Meet at 2.00 for setting off at 2.30 from the grandstand for what will be a most interesting run set by past masters David & Dianne Karran. This will lead us to another of the Club’s major annual events, Brenda’s Tea Party where she & George lay on the most magnificent afternoon tea. The weather will be brilliant!

27th – 31st August is The Great Dorset Steam Fair

Weekend in Llangollen, North Wales,
1-3 May 2009

At the clubs AGM in April I suggested we have a weekend in North Wales and a show of hands indicated that it was a good idea, so, I have found a top class Country House Hotel, Bryn Howel, near Llangollen that I have stayed at before, with plenty of safe off road parking, so, I will be organising this event for those that are wishing to take part.

The event will take the following format:-

Depart on Friday morning ferry to Liverpool followed by the run to the Hotel near Llangollen, which is in an idyllic location on the banks of the Shropshire Canal with views down the valley. After checking in at the hotel you will have time to have a walk along the canal to the famous Aqueduct or go into Llangollen centre before a relaxed cocktail before dinner.

Saturday morning after breakfast I will organise a morning tour to an interesting location (there are so many to choose from). In the afternoon you will have free time to do as you wish i.e. shopping or visit the local museums, (there is a motor museum in Llangollen). In the evening you can again have cocktails before Dinner.

Sunday morning after breakfast there will be a short tour locally before Sunday lunch and then depart the hotel for the ferry home.

I enclose a booking form if you wish to go, I require the form to be returned with deposit as soon as possible, but, no later than 3rd August 2008 as I have to pay the deposit to the Hotel.

Please return the booking form and deposit to me:-
