FIGHT WITH PLANNERS. A cautionary tale.

I have been fighting planners to erect a store for my classic cars, a Buckler and Gilbern are currently stored outside on my land which is privately owned by myself and hiden from view. I have been refused and the planners have now given me notice to remove the cars by the end of November or they will do so. I am currently liaising with my MHK and a Solicitors and awaiting there findings and am prepared to fight this all the way. But am making you aware that two classic pieces could soon be lost due to the IOM Governments narrow mindedness. Can you place this in your newletters to highlight my plight and alert your members to a situation that may arise with them in the future.

A note from John Bowles in Canada...

Hi Dianne:

July 18 2009. It's almost 12 months to the day that Shirley Ann and
I left the wonderful Isle of Man and all our friends, including those
in the MCCC, to retire to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

We've settled into a comfortable home overlooking the Saint John River
valley just outside the Fredericton city limits. Trips, gardening, some
charity work occupy some of our time while my life-long interest in
classic cars continues with a mint restored 1974 MGB. Next weekend,
we drive to neighbouring Prince Edward Island to compete in an international motoring festival) It's so damn hard to slow down! But health-wise we're OK.

The local British car club in Fredericton (130+ members) is very active
with a programme of activities much like those organised by the MCCC.
So we feel somewhat 'at home'. Later in the year we plan on going to
the 'British Invasion' event in Stowe, Vermont, USA where some 600 British
examples of the various marques will be shown.

We very much enjoy the MCCC website. Seeing the photo gallery of the
various events brings back happy memories. Keep up the good work!

A note from Francis Lobb...

Hi Dianne

I was supposed to Email you before Xmas, and wish you and our friends in the Club all the best for 2009. Better late than ever I suppose!

The three of us and Noodles the dog have settled in a lovely house in Johannesburg, part of Christmas day was spent sitting in our swimming pool drinking wine! Helen has settled in at school, she went back today after her /second/ lot of summer holidays, and my job is going well. Carolyn has a lady who comes in twice a week, and is thoroughly enjoying being a lady of leisure after working since she left school, good for her!

Sadly I had to leave all of my toys behind, but have just bought an Alfa GT Junior 1972 for Historic Racing, it needs a bit of work but should be good to go in February.

We thought about you on New Years Day, and hope that the run went well. I will keep an eye on the website (which is excellent) for the photos.

Please say hello to everybody for us!

Non-member John Gleeson has some old engines cluttering up his garage that he is open to offers on or ideally would like to swap for vintage motorcycle parts:
Holby engine out of a Sunbeam Rapier but will fit into other Rootes cars. All there plus an overdrive gearbox but no carbs. Dry stored for several years & not raced.
Early TR 4 cylinder bare engine with good compression. No gearbox.
Jaguar 6 cylinder 4.2 out of an XJS. Excellent compression, only one carb. No gearbox.
